Anesthesiology

Program Requirements: IV.A.6

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • 12 months of education must provide education in fundamental clinical skills of medicine relevant to anesthesiology
    • Does not need to be in first year, but must be completed before starting final year
    • Must include six months of fundamental clinical skills education caring for inpatients in family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery or any surgical specialties, or any combination
  • During the first year, there must be at least one month (not more than two) of critical care medicine
  • During the first year, there must be at least one month (not more than two) of emergency medicine

Dermatology

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • Prior to appointment, residents must have successfully completed a broad-based clinical year (PGY-1) in an emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, or pediatrics, or a transitional year program, accredited by the ACGME, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or the College of Family Physicians Canada (CFPC)

Diagnostic Radiology

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • Prior to appointment, residents must have successfully completed a clinical year consisting of training in a program accredited by the ACGME, RCPSC, or CFPC in emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery or surgical specialties, or any combination
    • This may also comprise an ACGME- or RCPSC-accredited transitional year program
  • A maximum of two months of elective rotations in diagnostic radiology (must be in an ACGME- or RCPSC- accredited program) is allowed

Nuclear Medicine

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • Residents must have successfully completed at least one year of graduate medical education in a program accredited by the ACGME or RCPSC
    • A minimum of nine months of direct patient care is required

Ophthalmology

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • Prior to appointment, residents must have successfully completed a post-graduate clinical year (PGY-1) in an ACGME-, RCPSC-, or CFPC-accredited program.
    • The PGY-1 must be in emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, or surgery, or in a transitional year program

Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • To be eligible for entry into the program at the ONMM1 level, residents must have completed:
    • an ACGME-accredited transitional year program with ACGME Osteopathic Recognition, in an osteopathic-focused position; or,
    • the first year of an ACGME-accredited family medicine residency with ACGME Osteopathic Recognition, in an osteopathic-focused position; or
    • the first year of another ACGME-accredited program with ACGME Osteopathic Recognition, in an osteopathic-focused position, including one month each in emergency medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology or ambulatory gynecology, and family medicine, and two months of general internal medicine

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • Residents must have successfully completed 12 months of education in fundamental clinical skills in an ACGME-, RCPSC-, or CFPC-accredited program
  • The first 12 months must be completed in an ACGME- or RCPSC-accredited transitional year program OR must include:
    • a minimum of six months in emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, or any combination
      • remaining rotations may be in any accredited specialty or subspecialty (each must be a minimum of four weeks)
    • no more than eight weeks in indirect patient care experiences (e.g., pathology, radiology, research)
    • no more than four weeks in physical medicine and rehabilitation

Preventative Medicine

Program Requirements: III.A.1.a.1

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • Residents must have successfully completed at least 12 months of clinical education in an ACGME-, RCPSC-, or the CFPC-accredited program.
    • There must be a minimum of 10 months of direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
    • Residents must have developed competency in fundamental clinical skills during this experience (III.A.1.a).(1).(b))

Radiation Oncology

Program Requirements: IV.A.6.a

Requirements for PGY-1:

  • The first year of post-graduate clinical education must be in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, or surgery or surgical specialties, or in a transitional year program
    • There must be a minimum of nine months of direct patient care in medical and/or surgical specialties other than radiation oncology
